Honden in Denemarken / Dog Friends
Dog friends : In South Jutland, we love dogs.
Look out for the Dog Friend logo – then you know your four-legged friend is a welcome guest.
What does the logo mean?
* Your dog is welcome – even if he is soaking wet from the rain.
* There is usually a bowl of fresh water for your dog – otherwise, you can just ask.
You can pick up a free poop bag(s) next to the info board outside.
Your dog is kept on a leash at all times on the campsite grounds and does not cause any nuisance to other guests.
Your dog is not welcome in our sanitary building.
Your dog is not welcome in our rental property (the log cabin).
In Denmark, we love dogs; we have more than 550,000. The dog lives with the family, is part of the family, and often goes along on camping holidays as well.
We often hear that it is difficult to find a campsite where dogs are welcome. Therefore, at our Daler campsite, dogs stay for free, but they must be kept on a leash.
As of July 1, 2025, there is a new law in Denmark stating, among other things, that a dog may not be left unsupervised at the entrance of a shop. Temporarily tethering your dog while you run an errand is only permitted for a short time, provided it is protected from the elements. It is prohibited to leave a dog outside a café, restaurant, museum, or similar establishment if it has to wait there for an extended period.
Having a dog in the car is not an option either, because at the first suspicion that it is too hot in the car, immediate action will be taken and the owner will be presented with a hefty bill.
---------------------------
You don't want stress on holiday. Therefore, stick to the European rules.
The points below apply always, throughout all of Europe:
* identification chip
* European Pet Passport
* valid rabies vaccination
-----------------------------
This applies to every dog that wants to enter Denmark:
Dogs younger than 3 months are not allowed to enter Denmark. Since July 3, 2004, every dog crossing the border requires a European passport, and identification by means of a microchip is mandatory. Previously, a tattoo was also permitted. However, as of July 2, 2011, only a microchip is allowed. Additionally, your dog must be vaccinated against rabies. Your dog must possess a European passport and be vaccinated against rabies at least 3 weeks prior to your trip abroad.
We may ask for the dog's passport upon check-in .
Ban on certain dog breeds:
Since July 1, 2010, the following dog breeds are not permitted: Pitbull Terrier, Tosa Inu, American Staffordshire Terrier, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, American Bulldog, Boerboel, Kangal, Central Asian Ovcharka, Caucasian Ovcharka, South Russian Ovcharka, Sarplaninac, Tornjak.
For animals resembling these breeds, the owner must be able to prove that they do not belong to these breeds (by means of a pedigree). Dogs purchased before March 17, 2010 (proof also required) are allowed into Denmark if they are kept on a short leash of no more than 2 meters in length, wear a muzzle, and are not sold in Denmark.

Although the dog can usually stay alone in the caravan or camper, it is not a good idea to leave him alone at the beginning of the holiday. The dog may become frustrated because he feels alone in an unfamiliar environment. For example, bring a blanket that the dog knows from home so that he feels at ease in his new "home".
For the best holiday with your dog, it is a good idea to check the local rules before heading into nature. "Hund i snor" is Danish for dog on a leash. You will also come across "lord i pose" on signs; this means put the dog poop in a bag. You will see these warnings particularly in forests and along the coast, but you may encounter these signs in other places as well.
Unless otherwise indicated, you must keep your dog on a leash, as unleashed dogs can scare wild animals (birds). Even a dog on a leash can be scary for children and people who are afraid of dogs, so show respect for others.
Dog-friendly forests and beaches:
In Denmark, you will find more than 100 forests where dogs are allowed to run free. In Danish, this is called a "hundeskove". During the winter months, from October 1 to March 31, you can take your dog off-leash to most beaches, but there are exceptions, so pay attention to local signs. Although dogs are allowed to run freely, you must still be able to keep your dog fully under control.
Fireworks-free:
New Year's Eve is normally a celebration for everyone, except for your dog (or cat).
Our campsite is fireworks-free. So it is ideal for you and your dog (or cat).
Come for a lovely walk and enjoy!
